HRSA Request for Information on HPSA Criteria Feedback – Period Ends September 18, 2020

The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) seeks public and stakeholder feedback to inform policy related to scoring criteria for Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs). These possible changes will be implemented via the Shortage Designation Modernization Project.

Health Professional Shortage Area Scoring Criteria Request for Information (RFI)

The purpose of this Request for Information (RFI) is to:

  1. Seek stakeholder input regarding current scoring found in a notice published in the Federal Register, 68 Fed. Reg. 32531 (May 30, 2003).
  2. Seek stakeholder input on possible additions or alternative approaches to HPSA scoring. These would include, but are not limited to: new factors; components; or point weighting. Note: HRSA will not accept proposals to expand NHSC eligibility to new provider types or proposals that otherwise go beyond the purview of HPSA scoring. This RFI will not be used to change or amend statutory language found in section 332 of the PHSA (42 USC § 254e) or its implementing regulations, found in 42 CFR part 5.

HRSA is accepting comments through September 18, 2020.
