NRHA’s Brock Slabach on Importance of Rural Pharmacy Access

NRHA COO Brock Slabach recently wrote a guest essay in the Daily Yonder on how pharmacists are often the most accessible source of care in rural areas and played a vital role providing testing, vaccination, and treatment initiation for COVID-19. “However, pharmacists have been providing these services under a temporary authority that will expire when federal health officials end the COVID-19 public health emergency. Unless Congress acts, seniors in rural America could lose access to essential pharmacist services they desperately need to manage their health.” NRHA wrote last spring about how COVID vaccination efforts were boosted by pharmacists in training. Additionally, Rural Health Research Gateway is hosting a webinar at noon CST Nov. 14 on rural pharmacy services and closures.
