Accountable care organizations were designed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to provide incentives to increase the quality of care while reducing its cost. They also allow participants to share in some of the savings generated by this model. A key element is to manage patients from a preventive perspective by getting more insights into their care, anticipating their needs, and slowing their disease progression. This adds value to both the facility and its patients. By understanding and anticipating their needs, caregivers can optimize their patients’ health and improve their quality of life.
