The National Rural Health Association (NRHA) Rural Health Nurse Certification Program is now enrolling for its first Cohort! This multifaceted course is designed to equip rural nurses with the information they need and a network of colleagues to help them provide high quality care in rural settings while recognizing and celebrating their vast skill sets.

In this program nurses will:

Create a nationwide network of like-minded, rural nurses

Explore 10 relevant, rural healthcare specific modules with experienced nurse leader subject matter experts

Solidify and grow knowledge base and confidence

This program is for current rural health nurses – RNs, LPNs/LVNs.

Accepting Applications – National Health Service Corps Scholarship Program

The Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) is accepting applications through April 27 for the National Health Service Corps Scholarship Program.

This program awards scholarships to students pursuing eligible primary care health professions training. In return, scholars commit to provide primary care health services in Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs).

Awardees must commit to a minimum of two years of full-time service and serve at a National Health Service Corps (NHSC) approved site in a HPSA.

This scholarship provides financial support for full-time enrollment in an eligible primary care health professions degree training program for up to four school years and includes:

Payment of tuition and eligible fees

An annual payment for other reasonable educational costs

Monthly stipends to assist with living expenses while pursuing health professions degree educational training program

After completion of the NHSC Scholarship Program (SP) service commitment, awardees may be eligible to apply to the NHSC Loan Repayment Program (NHSC-LRP).

Applicants must be a student pursuing primary care health professions training.

Notice of Funding Opportunity – Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic Planning, Development, and Implementation Grant – SM-23-024

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is accepting applications through May 22 for the Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic Planning Development and Implementation grant – SM-23-024. The purpose of this program is to transform community behavioral health systems and provide comprehensive, coordinated behavioral health care by:

(a) Assisting organizations in the planning for and development and implementation of a new Comprehensive, Coordinated Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) that meets the CCBHC Certification Criteria,

(b) providing a comprehensive range of outreach, screening, assessment, treatment, care coordination, and recovery supports based on a needs assessment that aligns with the CCBHC Certification Criteria, and

(c) supporting recovery from mental illness and/or substance use disorders (SUD) by providing access to high-quality mental health and SUD services, regardless of an individual’s ability to pay.

Eligible Applicants:

Community based behavioral health non-profit organizations, or organizations that are either:

  • Part of a local government behavioral health authority or
  • Operated under the authority of the Indian Health Service, an Indian tribe, or tribal organization, or
  • An Urban Indian Organization pursuant to a grant or contract with the Indian Health Service under Title V of the Indian Health Care Improvement Act (25 U.S.C. 1601 et seq.)

The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) is accepting applications for the fiscal year (FY) 2023 Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP): National HCOP Academies – HRSA-23-003.

The purpose of the National HCOP Academies is to assist individuals from economically and educationally disadvantaged backgrounds to enter and graduate from a health professions program. The National HCOP Academies funds programs that work to improve recruitment, matriculation, retention, and graduation rates by implementing tailored enrichment programs that address the academic and social needs of trainees from disadvantaged backgrounds. HCOP Academies also provide opportunities for community-based experiential health professions training, emphasizing experiences in underserved communities. A funding preference is available to applicants who partner with several public or private health or educational entities to establish, enhance, and expand educational programs that produce a competitive applicant pool of individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds.

  • Public health
  • Dentistry
  • Veterinary medicine

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently published a new fact sheet summarizing the Medicare rules and regulations for Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs). This latest version includes the revised CAH location requirement relative to other facilities to include areas with only secondary roads available as well as the requirement to inform the patient or their representative of their rights before starting or ending care and establish a grievance process.

Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) – HRSA 23-125 Rural Health Care Coordination Program

The Federal Office of Rural Health Policy (FORHP) is pleased to announce a new Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) HRSA-23-125 – Rural Health Care Coordination Program (RHCC).

The goals of the RHCC program are to implement activities that improve and expand delivery of health care services through care coordination strategies in rural areas. Over the four-year period of performance, approximately 10 award recipients will use this funding to improve health outcomes through coordinated, community-wide, sustainable programs in rural communities.

Eligible applicants include:

  • All domestic public or private
  • Non-profit or for-profit entities
  • Community-based organizations, federally recognized tribes, tribal organizations, and faith-based organizations

Applicants must have demonstrated experience serving rural populations and represent a consortia/network of three or more health care provider organizations.
