CMS Announces First Rural Hackathon

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Innovation Center announced on June 22 that it will conduct the 2024 Rural Health Hackathon, a three-day series of in-person, collaborative sessions designed to generate and construct creative and actionable ideas to address rural health challenges.

The 2024 Hackathon builds on CMS’ extensive outreach to rural communities through site visits and listening sessions to better understand rural health care issues.

Through these solution-oriented events, the CMS Innovation Center will bring together:

  • Rural health community care providers,
  • Community organizations,
  • Industry and tech entrepreneurs,
  • Funders,
  • Policy experts, and beneficiaries to leverage the wisdom and experience of the crowd.

Hackathon attendees will generate new ideas to address some of the top challenges impacting health care in rural health settings and drive action to improve clinical outcomes, increase access and better care experience for both patients and providers in rural communities.

How to Participate:

  • In-Person at one of the following locations:
    • Bozeman, Montana: August 14
    • Dallas, Texas: August 22
    • Wilson, North Carolina: August 29
      • Individuals interested in attending an in-person session should complete the five-minute Interest Survey by 11:59 p.m. eastern on July 12.
  • Virtual Idea Submission
    • Organizations and individuals that cannot attend the in-person events are invited to submit concepts during a public submission period in August 2024.
    • The public submission option will seek additional ideas to address the same challenge areas and questions for the in-person events
    • More information about the virtual idea submission will be posted by CMS, at a later date.

How do you feel about maternal and child health in your community? Missouri Maternal Child Health (MCH) wants to hear from you!

Your input will help MCH understand what programs and services are needed to improve the health of all Missourians.

The University of Missouri, in collaboration with the Department of Health and Senior Services is hosting three listening sessions. A free meal will be served and attendees will receive a $25 Visa gift card.

2025 Call for Presentations

The National Rural Health Association (NRHA) is now accepting session and research presentation proposals for the NRHA Annual Rural Health Conference, which will be held May 20-23, 2024, in Atlanta, Georgia.

Any person with an interest in rural health is invited to submit session proposals or original research for presentation during the nation’s premier conference celebrating all things rural health.

Presentation submission information:

  • Submissions must meet all the requirements of the category
    • Incomplete submissions will not be reviewed
  • Submissions must be received no later than Aug. 15, 2024
  • Only electronic abstracts will be accepted
  • Notification of acceptance will be sent out in late October
  • Presentations may not market products or services
    • Exhibit space is available for that purpose
  • If accepted, presenters must register for the conference
    • As a small gesture of appreciation for the work in preparing a presentation, NRHA will offer a limited-time discount on registration fees
    • If you register and pay in full by the early-bird deadline, you will receive a 50% discount on your registration fee
    • All registrations received after this deadline will be charged the full registration rate
  • No honoraria or travel expense reimbursement will be provided for any presenter submitting through “Call for Presentations”
  • If accepted, speakers agree to present in person
  • Standard audio/visual equipment provided by NRHA includes:
    • LCD projectors
    • Screens
    • Podium microphones
    • Computers must be provided by the speaker
  • Sessions are 75 minutes in length
